Reflecting on 31 Days

Whew. I can’t believe the 31 days challenge is over. I took the challenge to post about one topic every day in October here on Red Leaf Style. I may have cheated a little. Not every post completely relates to my original topic: 31 Days of Regimagining. And, I didn’t exactly post every single day. I kept up really well until around the halfway mark when I took a trip to Portland, Oregon. Then, I didn’t post a few days and I had to play catch up. Still, I’m really proud of myself for doing what I was able to do. Here’s what I learned about blogging and my home this month. 1. Get creative I learned that not every single blog post I write has to be a 700 word, perfectly written blog post with five gorgeous photos. It can be one pretty photo. Or a few short words and a series of photos. There are so many options I didn’t consider before. 2. Just post I learned that when I had a goal to post every day, then I found a way to post every single day. I figured out a topic to write about no matter...

Last-Minute Halloween Decorations

I wasn’t going to decorate for Halloween. I really wasn’t. Why buy décor that I’m only going to use once a year? I prefer to decorate for fall with items I already have. Then, my parents gave me a box of old Halloween decorations we used when I was a kid. Fake hands and feet. A bunch of oh-so creepy fake rats. And one string of lights. I figured, why not put it out? It took me all of five minutes to make my doorstep spooktastic. Happy Halloween! Keep up with Red Leaf Style! Weekend Finds: Garage Sale Lamp Shades

This weekend I stopped at a few garage sales and picked up two lamp shades for $3 each. Normally I can’t find cute lamp shades while thrifting. I love picking up lamp bases at the Goodwill, DAV and other secondhand stores. You can score really stylish secondhand lamp bases for cheap. Finding lamp shades is not so easy. At secondhand stores the lamp shades are usually dented or way outdated, if you find them at all. Lately, I’ve done well searching for lamp shades at garage sales. I’ve found that garage salers tend to have near perfect condition lamp shades because they bought them and they didn’t work for their particular lamp. And, then I buy them for less than a fourth of the price of what they would cost new. I’m not sure what I’m going to do with this other lamp shade yet, but for $3 I know I’ll put it to use at some point. Check out past weekend finds! Have you found any good garage sale finds lately? What Should I Do With It?

What Should I Do With It? | redleafstyle.com

My awesome friend found this medicine cabinet sitting on the curb and snagged it for me. She knows about my love for free furniture. Do I have any idea what I’m going to do with it? No, not really. Am I excited about it any way? Of course! It’s not as big as it looks. The width is about the size of a standard medicine cabinet, maybe a little wider. And the length is probably about four feet. It doesn’t look like it would be too difficult to hang on the wall. Maybe I could just set the shabby shelf on top of a dresser? I’m really not sure. I need your ideas! Tell me what you think I should do with it? I need some creative inspiration. Please oh-please drop me an idea in the comments… Keep up with Red Leaf Style! Cute Portland Apartment Bathroom

On a recent trip to Portland, Oregon, my friends and I rented a cute apartment to stay in over a long weekend. The apartment was way cheaper than a hotel and it had all of the vintage charm I love. Old radiators. Claw foot bathtub. A quirky floorplan. Here’s a look at the kitschy bathroom. I love all of those cute knickknacks in that built in shelf! Do you think this apartment is as adorable as I do? Want to see the rest of the apartment? Check out the bedroom, kitchen and living room. Keep up with Red Leaf Style! Cute Portland Apartment Bedroom

Over the past few days, I visited Portland, Oregon for a fun long weekend with friends. We spent the time shopping, trying out microbreweries and drinking a lot of coffee. We rented an adorable apartment to stay in. It was an old house that had been converted into apartments. Exactly my kind of style. Check out the cute pink, blue and yellow bedroom. 31 Days of Reimagining: Halfway There

31 Days of Reimagining: Halfway There | redleafstyle.com

After moving into my rental house two months ago, everything in my space still feels like I’m just “making do”. Nothing feels complete. And, it’s making me decorating crazy. Just making do My T.V. is still sitting on a cheap black three-shelf bookcase instead of the cute dresser I’ve been envisioning—but can’t find in reality. I still have unopened boxes sitting upstairs and I haven’t started any home projects. My pantry isn’t a pantry at all, but a huge metal cabinet where we’ve been storing food and extra dishes. It really should be in the garage, but right now it’s in our dining room. I’ve been imagining a stylish wooden hutch there instead. Perhaps one I find at a garage sale (for cheap of course) and repaint. Are my hopes too high? I’m trying to make do. But making do isn’t really working for me. I find myself walking around my house not knowing how to make it look better. I’m decorating frustrated. A reimagining reminder The whole point of this 31 days blog challenge is to show others how to reimagine. (If you don’t know what I’m talking about, read about the 31 days challenge here.)
