5 Ways to Use Wooden Boxes For Storage

5 Ways to Use Wooden Boxes For Storage | redleafstyle.com

We all need to store stuff.

So, why not make all that stuff look good at the same time?

Wooden boxes are one of my favorite creative storage solutions that serve a purpose and that look attractive.

You can pile about anything in them and they make a jumbled mess of stuff much easier on the eyes.

Here are five of my favorite ways to use wooden boxes for storage.

How to find wooden boxes for storage:

  • Scour thrift stores and
  • Wooden crates

1. Declutter your bathroom

Bathrooms tend to get unorganized—and fast.

Brushes, make-up, q-tips, towels, toothpaste, lotion. It all turns into a big mess over the bathroom counter.

Corral all of your bathroom products in wooden boxes for quick and easy organization.

I like to stick smaller items like nail files and razors in mason jars to keep them together. Then, I place the jars in wooden boxes. It keeps everything nice and organized.

My bathroom doesn’t have a lot of space, so I store wooden boxes that hold my bathroom supplies in a hallway linen closet. You could also mount boxes on your bathroom wall for rustic hanging storage.

2. Create freestanding shelves

Turn wooden boxes of various sizes on their sides so their openings face out and stack them to create shelves. Arrange them however you like. It’s nice to turn them into a kind of puzzle with some boxes arranged horizontally and others sitting vertical. You can store just about anything in the boxes—magazines, books, knickknacks.

Stacked like this, the boxes add a decorative touch to a blank wall. I’ve also been thinking about positioning a bunch of wooden boxes like this on top of a dresser to make the area look similar to built-in shelving.

3. Organize mail and papers

Get all of that junk mail organized with a simple wooden box. Designating one spot to place your mail will eliminate the piles of paper that tend to accumulate on the kitchen table. Just remember to go through the box regularly. Use dividers to get even more organized.

4. Corral clothes, purses and shoes

Organize your closet by corralling clothes, purses or shoes in one place with large wooden boxes. Wooden boxes with slats, like this one, are particularly nice for storing clothing items because you can easily see what’s in them.

5. Streamline desk supplies

Make your home office work-ready by organizing your desk supplies in wooden boxes. Keep one wooden box on your desktop to hold the supplies you need at hand, like pencils, pens, reference books, a stapler and any other essentials. Wooden boxes can also hold books, magazines, files, extra paper and whatever else you need near your desk.
