7 Handy Bathroom Organization Tips to Clear Clutter

Bathrooms tend to be difficult rooms to keep organized.

Shampoos, soaps, lotions and the tons of other products we use daily easily get scattered about.

Tweezers, nail files and hair ties end up anywhere but where you can find them.

If you’re anything like me, keeping your bathroom clutter-free will seriously reduce your stress levels when you’re trying to get ready in the morning. Here are some handy bathroom organization tips that I use to keep my bathroom tidy.

1. Mason jar storage

These trendy jars can get your bathroom organized in no time. I love using mason jars to store nail files, razors and make-up brushes. The vertical shape of these bathroom necessities usually makes them difficult to store, but they slip right into mason jars—and look nice too. You could also use mason jars to hold cotton balls, q-tips and toothbrushes.

2. Bowls to corral small items

Drawers and cabinets in the bathroom are where stuff goes to get lost forever. (Go check. I bet you don’t even know what’s in the back of that bathroom drawer.) If you don’t corral small items, like lip balms, tweezers, hair ties and bobby pins, they end up everywhere. My solution is to use small bowls to keep everything organized. One bowl holds my tweezers, cuticle scissors and nail clippers. Another keeps my hair ties and bobby pins  in one spot. This is also a good idea for storing jewelry, like rings and bracelets.

3. Keep the counter clear

One of the biggest problem areas in the bathroom is the counter. Countertops easily become a jumble of make-up, brushes and beauty products. When you keep the counters clear, it helps you stay organized.

For years my bathroom counters were a mess. Then, I moved into a rental house where the bathroom had no counters, just a pedestal sink. I didn’t have the space to leave my make-up, brushes and beauty products lying around, so I had to get organized. I’ve actually lived without bathroom counters for the past three-going-on-four years now—and I love it.

The next two tips will help you stay vigilant about keeping your counters clear.

4. Baskets for big items

Storing items like hair dryers, curling irons and straighteners in baskets makes it easy to keep everything put away. I like having a designated spot to store my hair gadgets, so they don’t end up all over the place. When you’re not using the baskets, you can tuck them under your bathroom cabinets or line them up on a shelf to create a streamlined look.

5. Plates to hold beauty products

Small bottles of perfume and oils can end up all over the bathroom without an assigned location to keep them in. It’s like they have a mind of their own! Round up all of those little bottles in one spot by placing them on a pretty plate. It looks fancy and keeps them organized.

6. Towel hooks or racks behind doors

Save valuable space in small bathrooms by hanging towel racks or hooks on the back of the bathroom door. It’s the perfect spot to keep towels up and out of the way.

7. Furniture with extra storage

Even the tiniest of bathrooms may be able to benefit from a small cart, table or standing shelf. I managed to fit this aqua blue kitchen cart from Ikea in my teeny tiny bathroom. It adds a dash of modern style to my 1950s peach bathroom and gives me tons of extra storage space.
