Home Decorating Resolutions For 2013

Home Decorating Resolutions For 2013 | redleafstyle.com

Happy New Year! I’m not always a fan of resolutions, but I love the idea of a fresh start that comes with the New Year. When decorating your home, it’s always nice to take a fresh look at your space. What better time than the New Year to do just that?

Often, you can rework what you already have to create a whole new look in your living room, kill the blahs in your bedroom, and even love your less-than-perfect kitchen (I’m talking about you renters). You may even realize that your dream home is the one you’re in right now. This idea goes along with the tagline of Red Leaf Style: Reimagine. Repurpose. Relove.

I haven’t really taken the time before to explain Reimagine. Repurpose. Relove. So, I’m going to now in the form of home decorating resolutions. These resolutions are for any of you who want your home to be a place you love.

When you reimagine…

…you find new ways to look at your current home. Reimagining opens up far more possibilities to be happy in your current home than if you just focus on your bedroom being too small or the fact that you can’t paint your rental. When you stop focusing on the negatives and rethink about what you already have, you may just come up with the perfect solution to make your home what you want it to be.

When you repurpose…

…you can find satisfaction in using what you already have in new ways. If you keep up with Red Leaf Style, you know that I’m a fan of decorating with repurposed items. Vintage tins for storage. An old door for a headboard. Jewelry as décor. I realize that this might not fit everyone’s style, especially the vintage aspect. I just feel that when you repurpose, you can create a home that’s uniquely yours—no matter your style. Whether that means repurposing a favorite vase as a planter or using a dresser as a T.V. stand, you can have a lot of fun dressing up your home in new ways with things you already love.

You can relove your home right now!

When you reimagine and repurpose, you can fall in love with your current home for the first time, or all over again. We spend a lot of time in our homes. They can affect our moods, our attitudes and our contentment. Stop waiting for your dream home or your next home, and start reloving the home you have right now.

Here’s to a home that makes you happy in 2013!
